New Discussion on Hunting Groups' Needs Could Save Prey Species

Letters to the Editor / Anchorage Daily News / November 10, 2004

Anchorage, Alaska - The Swan Cove area has been off limits to bear hunters for 20 years but a new proposal by the Alaska Game Board may re-open the area.

The board is proposing opening the remote brown bear viewing area in Angoon for the first time since 1984. The plan goes against the Department of Fish and Game's recommendation to keep the area closed.

The board will make a decision on the proposal in 2006.
