According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Gov. Sean Parnell has appointed Nate Turner to the Alaska Board of Game. Turner is a hunting guide and trapper who splits his time between Fairbanks and his family's rural homestead on the Kantishna River. Turner's appointment comes after the Legislature rejected Fairbanks tannery owner Al Barrette's appointment last month. Reactions gathered by the News-Miner from concerned Fairbanksans seem to indicate this new nomination is being received well. People say Turner is a straight shooter and has more concern for the land and getting game management right than he does for politics. Turner will become a voting member of the Board of Game immediately, but will face confirmation during the next Legislative session, set to begin in January. Read much more here. |
