Well, that didn’t take long. An Outside group that has long battled state game managers about wolves is calling for a tourism boycott of Alaska because the Board of Game voted last week to eliminate the buffer zone preventing wolf trapping near Denali National Park and Preserve.
The Board of Game made the correct decision in dropping the buffer zone, an odd creation placed adjacent to a park whose boundaries don’t represent any sort of biological demarcation. The wolves have their own boundaries, and retaining the artificial buffer zone made no sense.
So once again we have this Outside group, the Connecticut-based Friends of Animals, trying to influence policy in our state.
Alaskans have never much liked being threatened by Outsiders. We doubt this time will be any different.
