Haber's Wolf Studies Priceless

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / October 19, 2009

Gordon Haber spent his time almost exclusively studying wolves and advocating for them. If he wasn't in the field (which he was at every possible opportunity) he was alone in his Denali cabin or his tiny Anchorage efficiency apartment, or perhaps sitting by himself at the coffee shop with his computer, working on his scientific reports or his Web site - alaskawolves.org. Gordon was long characterized as being "in the pocket" of his sponsor, but those who knew him also knew that Gordon would never sell out to anyone. Gordon Haber was, above all else, a wolf biologist - a trained scientist. His knowledge of Alaska wolves, the result of more than 40 years of intensive field study, has added immeasurably to our understanding of those marvelous creatures.
