Help the McNeil Bear Sanctuary off linmits to hunting

Letter Writer Overlooked State's Subsistence Hunters

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / September 27, 2009

In his letter of Sept. 23 ("Predator/prey management benefits hunters from here, Outside"), Mr. Rod Arno laid out all the reasons why he thinks trophy hunters should benefit from predator control. He argued that "Alaska hunters and nonresident hunters will benefit from predator/prey management; why not trophy hunters too?"

No mention of Native Alaska hunters or rural subsistence hunters.

In the past, we've been told that aerial predator control is needed to ensure rural Alaskans have enough to eat. But as president of the Alaska Outdoor Council, Mr. Arno seems to have other priorities, which begs the question: just whose side is he on?
