We Live in Such Barbaric Times

Wolf Killings in Alaska

OpEdNews / Diary Entry / Sandra McGee / August 5, 2008

Why do we live in such barbaric times?

First off I have to say I am a sap when it comes to babies & animals. I have been that way ever since I can remember. So I have to tell you that when I go thru newspapers, web"-sites, my own e"-mails I always seem to be surprised when I come across something like this "state officials illegally kill 14 wolf pups after gunning down their mothers." I wish that you could just see the expression on my face "" "NO WAY" I say to myself. But then I think geez look at the world we live in. You would think that we live in the Wild West or something, but, no we do not. As far as I can recall we are in the year 2008. The state of Alaska just can't get away from killing wolves. They have had this crazy shoot em' from the air hunt going on now for at least the last 2 decades. How good it must feel to chase a wolf (while you are way high up in the sky) to exhaustion then shoot it. That my friends are called victory, or what I like to call it is just plain barbaric behavior.

They (Alaskans) claim that the wolves are actually eating all the Caribou. That's funny because last time I read about Caribou there are millions of them, and only how many wolves?? Certainly there aren't millions of wolves, we as Americans would not allow that. So how can the wolves are eating ALL of the Caribou???? Defenders of Wildlife have been fighting this massacre of the Alaskan Wolf for about as long as they have been hunting them from planes.

They (Defenders of Wildlife) are also in the process of helping "Alaskans for Wildlife", which is a coalition of local grassroots activists, hunters & citizens who secured the 55, 000 signatures to get a ballot measure put on the next August 26th vote. So if you want to help the wolves in Alaska go to the Defenders of Wildlife web site. That will give you all the information you need. They are up against some heavy hitters like Safari Club International "" those are the really, really rich folk that go out and pay lots of money to go and hunt polar bears, lions, cheetahs, jaguars etc. Basically its endangered animals that they pay to go and kill, then have stuffed for their walls of death.

Oh Alaska's Governor Sarah Plain has signed off on a $400,000 state"-funded propaganda campaign to justify the barbaric killing of wolves from the air. Before I forget "- "- when the state officials landed there plane they found the 14 helpless wolf pups in nearby dens, just weeks old and methodically shot each wolf pup in the head. So all in all they had a pretty good day "" with the adults they killed 28 totals.

Alaska really should be ashamed of them in my opinion. Living in such barbaric times "" don't you think?

I really don't like to talk about myself... but I guess I have to now. I started to get involved in Politics when Clinton became President. Seeing this administration that we have now just trample all over the Constitution is very disturbing. This administration has literally gotten away with murder. My activism is for people who are being treated un-fairly. Also animals play a big part of my life. I am an advoacate for humane treatment of animals... always have had that, ever since I was a little girl.
I love photography, horse back riding, reading, gardening.
Im sure that there is more .... but I can't think of any more right now.
