Human Wolves Far Worse than Pups

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / August 3, 2008

The July 29th story regarding the slaughter and wanton waste of the caribou on Cape Thompson was disturbing and thought-provoking. Does this help explain or justify why wolf pups are destroyed in their dens? The reason given at the time was to help decrease predation and increase the caribou numbers. Right. Got it.

Is this an example of the new and updated version of subsistence hunting? If so, the subject needs to be re-examined.

I'm anticipating that my comments will probably engender a number of the usual "don't judge all by the actions of a few" responses, the tired old blah, blah, blah. If the villages of Kivalina and Point Hope can't or won't help bring to justice these "hunters," they should lose their hunting and subsistence rights. What will they live on? Should have thought of that before they wasted all that meat.

The whole episode is beyond disgusting.
