Humanity, Common Sense Missing in Kills

Letters / Juneau Empire / July 31, 2008

I am so disgusted by the state Department of Fish and Game for their deceit and actions regarding the killing of wolves. Alaska law prohibits the killing of pups in their dens as part of a predator reduction effort. So, the department broke the law, lied to the press and the public, collected a salary for criminal activity and lying, and then billed the people of Alaska for all the expenses. Laws don't apply to the Department of Fish and Game?

We the people have twice voted down the aerial hunting of wolves, and Fish & Game and the governor ignore us. What happened to our representative government? What happened to fair chase? Where are the scientific studies warranting such action? We tout "Big Wildlife" and all we do is kill it. We kill the wolves and bears so we can kill more moose and caribou. We trap the wolverine for fun. The only big wildlife we're going to have left will be in glass cases at the airport. What kind of people are proud of wantonly, wastefully killing their wildlife? Or, killing their wildlife for monied interests from Outside and inside? Where did our paid representatives, including the governor, put their humanity, common sense and conscience?
