"Juneau & the Wolf"

Alaska Newsreader / Anchorage Daily News / February 14, 2008

A lone black wolf, which hangs out at Mendenhall Lake and has come to be called Romeo, has fascinated Juneau residents for some time now. But wildlife officials are saying in a Juneau Empire story today that people and their dogs may be trying to become too friendly with the animal.

Officials fear what could happen if the wolf, which is a suspect in the disappearance of two dogs and was photographed carting off a pug (it survived), is provoked. Or, looking at it the other way, they fear what could happen to the overly friendly wolf at the hands of a malicious or frightened person

Wildlife officials, meanwhile, are denying reports that they plan to dart and relocate Romeo.
