If You Learn How to Live in Alaska, It's Easier to Coexist with Wildlife

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / January 10, 2008

When you turn a corner in a trail and suddenly find yourself between a mamma moose and a baby moose, your first thought is "Oh, no!" and then you just get out of there.

Time and again people are going to encounter wildlife here because this is the Alaska wilderness. Considering the recent wolf encounters this is an excellent time to remind people to take the time to learn about this environment: Keep track of pets, carry a flashlight, secure household garbage, do not pet moose, bring bird feeders inside from spring through fall, etc.

Take a class and enjoy Alaska.
