Ravenous Wolves Attack Alaskan Missionary on January 26, 1950

Alaska Newsreader / Anchorage Daily News / December 14, 2007

"Ravenous wolves attack missionary." Thus read the headline on a Jan. 26, 1950, Anchorage Daily News story dug up by Far North Science. As summarized on the web site, the newspaper account told of a missionary and his dog team who were raided by a pack of wolves while carrying supplies from Palmer to Copper Basin.

"His dogs were devoured, and he had to keep a campfire going throughout every night to save himself from the vicious beasts," the story reported.

That story comes back up amid reports this week and last that wolves attacked and killed dogs in the Fairbanks and Anchorage areas.
