Moose More Dangerous Than We Thought They Were

Letters / Peninsula Clarion / September 10, 2007

From the land of Norway a disturbing global warming revelation. Scientists proclaim the moose to be a major contributor to greenhouse gases. A single moose through its "farting and belching" can produce up 2,100 cubic yards of CO2 and methane gas per year. That is just one moose and Norway is home to 170,000.

That level of greenhouse gas contamination is equivalent to a single car traveling 13,000 kilometers per the authors of the study. Apparently the bacteria living in the moose gut is exceptionally good at converting the masses of food eaten into digestible moose nutrition and loads of volatile gases.

Holy mackerel! Next time I'm anywhere near a moose, I'm extinguishing all open flames.
