I've been a resident of Alaska since October 2005. I made my first trip to the zoo last month. When I walked into the elephant room at the Alaska Zoo I could have cried. My first impression was of a prison: concrete and steel, dark, dank, one lone elephant confined indoors inside this horrible cage. Anyone with a lick of humanity would beg that Maggie be moved. I'm begging. Even if you don't care about Maggie, think of how this portrays Alaska to the world visitors during tourist season. We have a lovely zoo that highlights the arctic animals. Why are we keeping this poor elephant?
