Alaska's Game Board Would Benefit with Some Attention to Public's Wishes

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / April 17, 2007

Wouldn't it be just great to have a Board of Game that is balanced and fair, that looks out for the welfare of all, including animals? I don't think we have one like that now. Maybe we should have a board with a couple more biologists. I don't think all Alaskans have had fair representation of their views.

In the board's last two sessions, they seem to have made some very poor decisions: the aerial wolf hunt, trapping wolverines and, as announced recently, the killing of 900 to 1,400 black bears ("Cull of the wild," April 10). Are all these people nuts? It seems they only want to kill animals.

I would hope the governor would intervene now to put some pressure on this board to come up with more rational decisions that are more in tune with the wishes of the public. However, it looks like we are stuck with some of these people and their irrational decisions until their terms end.
