Tourist Appreciates Wilderness of Alaska, Not Killing of Wolf Heritage

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / April 4, 2007

Like millions of other Americans, I am sickened by the state of Alaska's continuing effort to kill wolves, most recently by offering a $150 bounty. Wolves are a symbol of America's wilderness heritage, a heritage that Alaskans should be proudly protecting for future generations, not squandering for the benefit of a selfish few.

Wolves play a crucial role in nature by culling elderly and diseased prey animals. They also benefit Alaska's economy. I've spent money as a tourist in Alaska. Like millions of others, I come there for its wilderness. I urge Alaska citizens to contact your governor and demand a stop to this senseless tragedy by ending the wolf-killing program once and for all.
