Romeo the Wolf Befriends Juneau

Anchorage Daily News / February 8, 2007

A solitary black wolf that Juneau residents have come to know as "Romeo" is so comfortable around humans that he plays with their pets. He grabs a pug as if it were a rabbit at Mendenhall Lake last week. The wolf subsequently released the dog, apparently unharmed.

Romeo apparently has allowed a few people to touch him. Not a good idea, state wildlife officials say. Pick up your Friday copy of Anchorage Daily News or check back at adn.com for more on Romeo.

Case of mistaken identity? The black wolf, known as Romeo, grabs a pug as if it were a rabbit in a photo taken at Mendenhall Lake. The wolf subsequently released the dog, apparently unharmed.

Catch and release: A pug lands on its back after being let go by the black wolf at Mendenhall Lake.
