While I congratulate Sarah Palin on her election as governor, I abhor the aerial killing of wolves and other wildlife. I beg the her to curb this inhumane practice.
I am not a bleeding heart, and I accept the reasons for culling the numbers of wolves in the face of dwindling food supplies or life-threatening predator control. I accept hunting for food or when the hunter matches wits with his prey. But I condemn the aerial killing of wolves with the animal caught in the open, run to exhaustion and executed.
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way its animals are treated," Mahatma Ghandi said. I cannot believe that the people of Alaska want to have the stigma of aerial killing attached to the good name of their state.
I ask Governor Palin: "Won't you please take steps to stop this unconscionable practice?"
