We Need to Speak Out Against Cruel Treatment of Animals

Letters / Anchorage Daily News / December 4, 2006

It was good to read on Nov. 28 two fine opinion contributions reminding us that we need to be better stewards of the earth and the animals entrusted with our care, wild, domesticated or captive. I am referring to the Rev. Paul Klitzke's Compass piece, "We must take care of God's creation," and Bill Sherwonit's letter, "State predator control is little more than farming of Alaska's wild game" exposing the state's predator-control program for what it is: a senseless atrocity.

It sounds like most people realize that global warming is actually happening and human activities are contributing heavily to it. As to the treatment of animals, we have to speak up for them as we would for a child who has no voice and not bow to the self-serving wishes of a definite minority.
