Wolf Killed Near Ketchikan

Associated Press / KTVA-TV / June 13, 2006

A wolf that apparently was eating cats and getting into garbage was killed in Ketchikan. Boyd Porter, a Department of Fish and Game biologist, says the black wolf shot last week was approximately four-years-old and weighed about 85 pounds.

Porter says the wolf had eaten a cat just prior to being shot. He says during the past two to three weeks Fish and Game received several reports of a single black wolf in the area.

Porter says the agency monitored the animal, thinking it would move on. But, he says, in addition to eating cats, the wolf was eating dog food and getting into residential garbage. Porter says such behavior in wolves is rare.
