Wolf Crazy

Opinion / Anchorage Daily News / March 15, 2006

The Friends of Animals have launched a new national campaign against Alaska's wolf-control program. That's their right. But they're wrong again.

I'm not talking about the their opinion of the wolf-control program. I'm talking about the gross misunderstanding of the 49th state reflected in their ad, which reads:

IF YOU SHOOT WOLVES

TO SAVE MOOSE

AND THEN YOU SHOOT THE MOOSE

YOU'RE EITHER

OUT OF YOUR MIND

OR IN ALASKA

Since when is madness and Alaska residency an either-or proposition?

But wait until Friends of Animals president Priscilla Feral hears about the proposal to turn snowmachine hunters loose on the wolves on either side of the Parks Highway. Swap sand for snow and skis for wheels and you've got a vision right out of "Road Warrior."

She'll be out of her mind; then she'll understand Alaskans better.
